Building back better

3 juni 2020 @ 13:00 - 15:30 CEST

Building back better

Finance and development leaders in joint action

The world is currently fighting the Covid-19 pandemic and its devastating humanitarian and economic impact. Countries are overwhelmed with the additional burden that the outbreak is imposing on public health systems and national budgets.

The effects of the global crisis will be long-lasting, but the crisis is also an opportunity. The shifts in the global financial system is a chance to set the world on track for a sustainable recovery, and ensure there is financing for sustainable development, for everyone. The private sector has an important role to play, in solid collaboration with the public sector.

The Global Investors for Sustainable Development, GISD*, is an initiative launched by the UN Secretary-General in 2019, with inspiration from the Swedish alliance SISD (among others). In conjunction with their global digital GISD conference in Stockholm, Sida together with UN DESA is organizing a global on-line conference on how to build back better from Covid-19 pandemic through long-term investment in sustainable development. This special Development Talks public session will explore the role of investors in scaling up long-term investment for a sustainable recovery. How can investors, development actors and the UN work together to support reaching the 2030 Agenda, in a post-pandemic world?

With 10 years left to the delivery of the 2030 Agenda with the Global Goals, we are entering a Decade of Action to step up the efforts. Welcome to a virtual call to action, with finance and development leaders in joint action for a more equitable and sustainable world.

Please register here.
The event is free of charge and will be broadcasted on this livestream.

Moderators: Alan AtKisson and Cecilia Scharp, Assistant Directors-General, Sida
