Financial Centres for Sustainability – what next for Stockholm?
23 februari 2018 @ 13:00 - 14:00 CET
Mobilizing the world’s financial centres is essential for progress on climate change and sustainable development – and a growing number of financial centres are taking strategic action to seize this opportunity. To build on this momentum and intergovernmental endorsement form the G7, a first global meeting of financial centres was hosted in Casablanca, Morocco, in September 2017 to launch the International Network of Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S Network).
Structured as a partnership between financial centres and UN Environment, which acts as its Convenor and Secretariat, the FC4S Network is now moving into operation. With 17 financial centres as members, across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, the Network is now seeking to advance an ambitious strategy and work programme over a three-year horizon (2018-2020). In 2018, the Network develop practical outputs for financial centres to tackle sustainable finance as a competitive challenge, build skills and capacity, bring clarity on definitions and taxonomies, and leverage new innovations – such as fintech – to address barriers and fill market gaps.
Purpose of the seminar
The purpose of this Roundtable discussion is to gather input from leading financial institutions, public authorities and civil society organisations on what makes sustainable finance ‘tick’ in Stockholm – and how Stockholm can take advantage of the sustainable finance opportunity domestically and abroad.
Jeremy McDaniels (UN Environment) will present the pathway for development of the Network in 2018 – and explore the strategic challenge for Stockholm as the leading Nordic financial centre. We will then open the floor for input from you – to identify Stockholm’s unique competitive advantages for sustainable finance; key institutional, market, and capacity gaps; and areas where Stockholm could learn from peer financial centres around the world.
The discussion will be moderated by Cecilia Repinski (Stockholm Green Digital Finance).
